Do I Need Therapy? 6 Signs It Might Be Time to Talk to Someone

Here are six signs I hear often:

1. The same conversation keeps coming back around.

Whether it's with a partner, a parent, or yourself, when the same argument or conflict patterns loop without resolution, something underneath is asking for attention.

2. I feel stuck. I've tried self-help books, AI and online help, but it's not working. I think I need more.

Reading, journaling, and searching can only carry you so far — insight without a relationship to try it on with is often where progress quietly stalls. A trained person paying close attention, in real time, is a different kind of resource than a chapter or a chatbot.

3. I've stopped feeling things I used to feel.

Numbness is a signal, not the absence of one. When food doesn't taste like anything and music stops moving you, the nervous system is often trying to conserve energy for something you haven't named yet.

4. Small things feel bigger than they should.

A short email tips you into panic. A cancelled plan feels catastrophic. That's usually less about the trigger and more about how much you're already holding.

5. I'm taking care of everyone but myself.

If you're the friend everyone calls but you don't call anyone — or you can name what your partner needs but not what you need — therapy is a space that is, quietly, only for you.

6. I keep wondering if I need therapy.

This one is the simplest and the most overlooked. If the question keeps coming up, it's worth honoring by having a single conversation.

You don't have to be certain to reach out. A first conversation is not a commitment; it's a way to find out what would actually be helpful.

If any of this landed, I'd be glad to talk.
